A handful of weekends ago, I squeezed into a very full Toyota Camry with some of my favorite people to drive to Athens, GA for a very bittersweet couple of days. We carried a trunk full of cameras, masks, recording equipment, and assorted snacks to film the band Franny's very last show. They played on their living room stage, walls painted pastel and various toys hanging all around. A layer of bed sheets suspended between the crowd and a network of string lights hooked to the ceiling. It was without a doubt the most impressive house show I've ever been to. Franny has a special place in my heart (it's my best friend's personal project, I designed their visual identity, and their music is amazing to boot), so it's pretty tear-jerking to see them disperse prematurely. At least their final weekend together was full of good vibes, popped guitar strings, and a whole lot of beer and tacos. Here's a lil sneak peak of the video we're putting together:
Last week I took a little step away from everything for some much needed nature therapy with two of my best buds. We spent a couple days on the Neusiok Trail in Croatan National Forest, NC, romping around, getting lost (twice), and freezing our heads off. Could it get any better? Planes from a nearby airforce base constantly flew low overhead, providing us with the roaring music of the apocalypse. Random pieces of bullet hole-laden furniture littered the trail. One night, we thought our tent might blow away with us in it. As far as east coast camping goes......Not too shabby.
Some 35mm documentation below.
I can already tell this year is going to be a hectic one. Luckily, I'm still enjoying the calm before the storm. I've made a pact to start journaling (at least a little) every day, which has turned out to be very therapeutic so far, and I can already tell it's going to improve my memory. I've also been keeping my hands busy with some DIY projects. For Christmas, I got my girlfriend a canvas Rothco Day Pack that I tricked out with a handmade scrap leather lash tab and some embroidered badges. I struggled with my sewing skills a bit, but it was a fun undertaking. I'd like to experiment with more lash tabs using different kinds of leather, maybe even open an Etsy store to sell them. I'd love to design some of my own patches too. But let's not get ahead of ourselves... There's nothing like spending quality time with the pup and saying goodbye to the Christmas tree to get me excited for the year to come.
I've been shooting more and more 35mm stuff lately, thought I'd post some from this summer. Shot on Canon AE-1.
A little late posting, but here are some panos from the last half of our 30-day weekend
I've been meaning to start a blog here for a while, and I figure now is as good a time as any. For the past 9 days, I've been crammed into a Subaru Outback with four of my closest buds, journeying across the country. We left from Wilmington, NC and we'll finish in Charleston, SC on August 26. We're currently taking a (much needed) break from the car for a few days in Seattle, WA. The highlights thus far have been: watching thunderstorms roll over the beach in North Carolina, heartily consuming bourbon and bbq in Tennessee / Kentucky, getting soaked hiking Lost Lake in Colorado, seeing a whole lot of bison in Wyoming, and camping a couple nights in Yellowstone. Photos to follow.
